I find myself drawn to beautiful thin yarns, but I’m too impatient to knit a sweater on #1 needles. Here is a way to use thin yarn and small double points that moves along quickly and yields a very unique result.  I’ve knitted with pearls, marbles and polished stones. Imagine beach glass, vintage beads or maybe even small shells. Have fun experimenting!

Skills Needed

General knitting skills.

Sizes

One size

  • Length: The necklace has no clasp so it must be long enough to fit over your head. Samples are 33–34" around.

Materials

Suggested Yarns

Habu xs-55 (100% linen, 1.7 oz/370 yd), or

Habu A-142 Tassar Silk (100% silk, 0.5 oz/
233 yd), or

Isager Bomuld (100% mercerized cotton, 100 g/459 yd), or

Approx 100 yds any strong fingering weight yarn, i.e. silk, linen, cotton

Needles

Three US #1 double point needles. To loosen the gauge around large objects (which allows more of the marble, stone or other object to show through the knitted fabric) you may increase to US #3 dpns.

Gauge
